An atmospheric oasis on Luxor’s West Bank
Al Moudira is one of those rare hotels where the property itself becomes part of the reason to travel. Set within almost eight hectares of gardens on Luxor’s quieter West Bank, it feels deliberately removed from the conventional Nile hotel experience while remaining well placed for the Valley of the Kings and the great archaeological sites of ancient Thebes.
The architecture draws on Egyptian and Middle Eastern traditions: domes, courtyards, fountains, hand-painted frescoes, antiques and shaded gardens create a hotel with a strong individual identity.
Suites, apartments and villas
The hotel has 54 suites arranged around private courtyards. No two are exactly alike, but recurring details include high domed ceilings, antique furnishings collected across the Middle East, airy bathrooms and Egyptian cotton linens.
For guests wanting still more privacy, larger apartments and villas extend the residential feel of the property. This is not a hotel to choose by room size alone – location within the gardens, individual decoration and atmosphere are equally important.
Gardens and pool
Palm trees, citrus, hibiscus, olive trees and vegetable gardens turn the estate into a genuine oasis. The main marble-lined pool is large enough for proper swimming and sits within a palm grove, while several villa pools may also be available depending on occupancy.
Dining
Al Moudira uses produce from its own farm and gardens across a collection of characterful settings. Meals may be taken in the main restaurant, courtyard or pool pavilions, while Il Forno provides relaxed wood-fired cooking. Shahrazade offers an opulent private-dining setting inspired by 1930s Cairo, and the Eastern Bar is made for a slower aperitif at the end of the day.
Wellness
The spa combines a traditional marble hammam and Turkish bathing rituals with massage treatments, sauna facilities and therapists offering a more contemporary wellness programme.
Exploring Luxor
The West Bank location is ideal for the Valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens, Medinet Habu and the temples and tombs spread across the Theban landscape. The hotel can also arrange hot-air ballooning, visits to local artisans, felucca trips and bespoke excursions.

Why we like it
Al Moudira has character that cannot be manufactured by a conventional luxury chain. It suits travellers who care as much about atmosphere, design and a sense of place as they do about conventional hotel facilities.
