Anderssons at Ongava occupies the private Ongava Game Reserve on the southern boundary of Etosha, combining contemporary safari accommodation with unusually strong access to conservation science. The lodge overlooks a busy waterhole, so wildlife viewing does not stop when guests return from a drive.
Ongava protects around 30,000 hectares of private wilderness and supports both black and white rhino alongside lion, elephant and plains game. Guests can explore the private reserve and also make excursions into neighbouring Etosha National Park, giving the stay two complementary safari environments.
Nine natural-stone suites
Anderssons has nine rooms available, designed in stone, wood and glass with wide views into the bush. Suites include climate-controlled bedrooms, en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers and private decks offering approximately 180-degree views.
The architecture is substantial enough to remain comfortable through Namibia’s temperature swings while keeping the landscape visually present. A family configuration is available, and room selection can be matched to the group.
The waterhole and photographic hide
The central bar and relaxation areas face a frequently visited waterhole, creating easy wildlife viewing between activities. An underground photographic hide takes guests to eye level, providing a very different perspective for photography and patient observation.
A live waterhole feed is also available in the rooms, an unusual feature that allows guests to see what is happening even when relaxing privately.
Safari on Ongava and in Etosha
Game drives explore the private reserve with experienced guides, while walking offers the chance to approach the landscape at ground level. Excursions into Etosha add the vast pan and its associated wildlife concentrations to the experience. Night safari opportunities on private land provide another contrast with national-park regulations.
Rhino conservation is particularly important at Ongava, and sightings are handled within a broader conservation context rather than simply as a checklist.
Research and the Discovery Centre
Anderssons is adjacent to the Ongava Research Centre, an independently funded scientific hub studying wildlife, habitats, climate impacts and human relationships with nature. Guests can engage with this work through the Discovery Centre, whose exhibits cover the geology, plants, animals and ecology of Ongava and Namibia.
