Giraffe Manor

Giraffe Manor is a polished, privacy-first base in Nairobi: design in stone and timber, service that lands lightly, and days tuned to light, weather and appetite. Expect unhurried outings, long...

Nairobi’s most distinctive wildlife stay

Giraffe Manor is not simply a hotel with giraffes nearby. A resident herd of endangered giraffes moves through the 12-acre private estate and surrounding sanctuary, approaching the manor at breakfast and afternoon tea for the encounters that have made the property internationally famous.

The 1930s manor house sits within 140 acres of indigenous forest in Langata and retains the atmosphere of a private country house. Its small scale is fundamental to the experience.

Historic Manor and Garden Manor

There are 12 individually designed rooms across two buildings. The original Historic Manor has six rooms and dates from 1932. Garden Manor, built in 2011 using reclaimed period materials, has a further six rooms and mirrors the character of the original house.

The room mix includes nine superior doubles, one triple superior room and two family suites. Giraffe encounters are offered to guests in both houses.

The giraffe experience

Breakfast and afternoon tea are the signature moments, when giraffes may stretch their long necks towards the windows and terraces in search of treats. These are wild animals and interactions happen on their terms, which is part of what makes the experience so unusual.

Guests also have access to the neighbouring Giraffe Centre and can learn more about the conservation work behind the experience.

The Retreat

Next door, The Retreat adds a 21-metre infinity pool, gym, sauna, steam room, hot tub, spa treatments and Daisy’s Café. It provides welcome downtime between the manor’s wildlife encounters and Nairobi excursions.

Good to know

Demand is exceptionally high. The Historic Manor is primarily reserved for guests combining Giraffe Manor with other Safari Collection properties, while Garden Manor is open more broadly. Remaining rooms can sometimes be released closer to travel.

Why we like it

It is famous for good reason, but the best part is that the experience has more depth than the photographs suggest. Conservation, the history of the house and the intimacy of the property make it far more than a novelty overnight stay.
