Tarangire National Park, Tanzania

Olivers Camp

Olivers Camp is a polished, privacy-first base in Tarangire National Park: design in stone and timber, service that lands lightly, and days tuned to light, weather and appetite. Expect unhurried...

Olivers Camp is a distinctive stay in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. Oliver's occupies the remote southern part of Tarangire near the Silale Swamps, and its ability to combine drives with walking and night safari gives the stay unusual variety.

Accommodation and atmosphere

15 tented rooms arranged in two wings, each with its own lounge and dining area. Accommodation is only one part of the decision: outlook, privacy, family configuration, access and the way a property feels through the middle of the day can matter as much as headline facilities.

We therefore match the exact category to the guests rather than automatically quoting the entry room. Current configurations and inclusions are checked for the proposed dates, particularly where family units, private pools or specialist room types materially change the experience.

Fifteen tents near the Silale Swamps

Oliver’s and the former Little Oliver’s were combined into one camp in 2021. The present layout has two wings linked by a raised walkway, with five rooms on one side and ten on the other. Each wing has its own lounge and dining area, with a shared pool and deck between them.

Tarangire is particularly known for elephants, baobabs and seasonal wildlife concentrations. Oliver’s southern position also permits night drives, while guided walking is normally offered seasonally and subject to conditions. Asilia currently sets a minimum age of 12 for walking safaris.

Experiences

Experiences can include day and night game drives, guided walking safaris and optional ballooning. The best programme depends on season, weather, wildlife movements and individual interests, so we favour flexibility over filling every hour.

Wildlife sightings can never responsibly be guaranteed. Good guiding and sufficient time are more important than a checklist. The same principle applies beyond safari: wine, marine, cultural and city experiences are more rewarding when selected carefully rather than accumulated simply because they are available.

Dining and downtime

Meals and unstructured time form part of the stay. Depending on the property, dining may move between a restaurant, terrace, riverbank, beach, cellar, bush setting or private deck. Dietary requirements should be advised in advance, especially at remote camps where supplies require planning.

We deliberately leave room to stop. An afternoon beside a pool, watching a river, sitting at a waterhole or walking through a vineyard can be as valuable as another formal activity, particularly within a longer itinerary.

Good to know

Rates, inclusions, operating dates, transfers and activity schedules can change. We confirm the details for the requested dates, including light-aircraft baggage restrictions, road-transfer times, minimum ages, seasonal access and any specialist equipment or permits required.

Length of stay should reflect both the destination and the effort involved in reaching it. A city hotel may work for one or two nights, while a remote safari camp often deserves three or more. We plan the overall rhythm so that the journey feels varied without becoming rushed.
