Riad Maison Bleue

Riad Maison Bleue is a polished, privacy-first base in Fez: design in stone and timber, service that lands lightly, and days tuned to light, weather and appetite. Expect unhurried outings,...

Riad Maison Bleue is a family-run historic house in Fes, formed from three interconnected residences within the old medina. The property belongs to the El Abbadi family and reflects a long Fassi tradition of hospitality, architecture and food. Its arrangement of houses and courtyards mirrors the layered lanes of the medina outside, giving the riad a particularly strong connection to the city.

The current property has 18 rooms and suites, combining antiques, bespoke pieces and traditional Moroccan detail with modern comforts. It is intimate enough to feel personal but substantial enough to include a restaurant, bar, spa, hammam and gym.

Sixteen suites and two rooms

Accommodation comprises 16 suites and two rooms, each with its own mix of furnishings and decorative character. Traditional Fassi elements sit alongside more contemporary pieces rather than creating a museum-like reconstruction.

Sections of the riad can be taken privately for larger groups, an interesting option for families or friends who want the atmosphere of a historic medina house with greater exclusivity.

Fassi cuisine and cooking experiences

Food is one of Maison Bleue’s strongest identities. The El Abbadi family has preserved traditional Fassi recipes and cooking techniques across generations, and the restaurants place those flavours at the centre of the stay.

The Maison Bleue Culinary School allows guests to go further, with masterclasses that can include shopping for ingredients in the medina before returning to prepare traditional dishes. For travellers interested in Moroccan food culture, this is a meaningful experience rather than a token hotel activity.

Fes from inside the medina

Staying within the old city allows guests to experience Fes at different times of day, including early mornings and quieter evenings after day visitors have left. Private guiding can focus on madrasas, tanneries, artisan workshops, markets and the religious and intellectual history of the city.

The spa and hammam provide a welcome contrast to hours spent walking through the medina’s lanes.

Good to know

Riad Maison Bleue and La Maison Bleue are related but distinct properties within the same family operation. Medina access and the historic layout mean guests should expect stairs, lanes and a very different flow from a modern city hotel.
