Alphonse Island lies far from the Seychelles’ main granitic islands, surrounded by lagoon, reef and the deep Indian Ocean. Its isolation creates a very different experience from Mahé or Praslin: there is little reason to rush and almost every day revolves around the natural environment.
Beyond the first impression
Snorkelling and diving reveal rich marine habitats, while guided nature activities can explore the atoll’s birdlife, beaches and conservation work. The surrounding flats are internationally known among specialist fly-fishing guests, though the island is equally compelling for non-anglers.
Days shaped around the destination
Bicycles and sandy tracks reinforce the sense of simplicity despite the high level of hospitality. Conditions and conservation priorities shape activities, which is part of travelling responsibly in such a fragile environment.
Planning a longer stay
Alphonse is best used as a destination in its own right or paired with a contrasting Seychelles island. The journey there is part of the sense of remoteness.
