Arenal Volcano dominates the landscape around La Fortuna in northern Costa Rica. Although the volcano is currently in a resting phase, its near-symmetrical cone remains the visual focus of a region rich in rainforest and geothermal activity.
Forest and adventure
Hiking, hanging bridges, waterfalls, rafting and wildlife excursions offer many ways to explore the surrounding landscape. Natural hot springs provide a restorative counterpoint to active days.
Where Arenal fits
Arenal combines particularly well with Monteverde and the Pacific coast, creating a journey through contrasting ecosystems. Two or three nights allow the region to be enjoyed without turning every day into an activity schedule.
