The Bazaruto Archipelago lies off Mozambique’s Inhambane coast, a protected chain of islands surrounded by clear turquoise water. White dunes, freshwater lakes, coral reefs and broad beaches create one of southern Africa’s most beautiful marine landscapes.
A protected marine world
Bazaruto Archipelago National Park was created to protect an exceptional ecosystem that includes sea turtles, dolphins, reef fish and an important population of dugongs. Snorkelling and diving reveal the underwater environment, while boat trips and dhow sailing open up the islands from the sea.
Island days
The pace is naturally relaxed, but the archipelago offers considerably more than lying on a beach. Fishing, horse riding, dune exploration and marine safaris can be balanced with long periods of privacy at a beachfront resort.
Safari and sea
Bazaruto combines exceptionally well with safari in southern or eastern Africa. Access through Vilanculos makes it possible to move from bush to Indian Ocean without turning the beach element into a separate journey.
