Lake Kariba stretches along Zimbabwe’s northern border, formed by the damming of the Zambezi. Its vast scale, drowned trees and distant escarpments create a distinctive landscape somewhere between safari and an inland coastal escape.
On and beside the water
Boating, fishing and wildlife viewing along the shoreline shape the experience. Elephant and other animals may be seen near the water, while birdlife is prolific and sunsets across the lake are a defining feature.
A slower safari chapter
Kariba works particularly well after more intensive game viewing elsewhere. Houseboats and lakeside lodges encourage a gentler pace and can link naturally with Mana Pools or other northern Zimbabwe destinations.
