Lake Mayara National Park retains the WordPress title used by this collection and refers to Lake Manyara National Park in northern Tanzania. The park lies beneath the Rift Valley escarpment, where groundwater forest, woodland, open areas and the alkaline lake create striking habitat diversity within a relatively compact area.
A change of safari scenery
Manyara can feel refreshingly different after the broad plains of Tarangire or Serengeti. Elephant, giraffe, buffalo and primates may be encountered, while the lake and wetlands support abundant birdlife when conditions are favourable.
Forest, escarpment and lake
The transition from dense entrance forest to more open country is one of the park’s pleasures. Rather than focusing on a single famous species, the experience is strongest when treated as an exploration of contrasting habitats.
Where Manyara fits
Its position on Tanzania’s northern circuit makes the park easy to combine with Ngorongoro and Tarangire. A carefully paced visit can add variety without turning the itinerary into a race between national parks.
