Lake Taupo

Lake Taupo combines New Zealand's largest lake with volcanic landscapes, trout fishing and easy access to the central North Island's geothermal and alpine experiences.

Lake Taupo fills an immense volcanic caldera in the centre of the North Island. Its broad blue water, distant mountains and position between Rotorua and Tongariro make it both a destination and a natural hub.

On and around the lake

Boating, kayaking and renowned trout fishing place the water at the centre of many stays. Huka Falls and rivers flowing from the lake add further drama close to Taupo township.

Volcanic central North Island

Tongariro National Park and geothermal areas lie within reach, allowing a Taupo stay to combine water, walking and volcanic scenery. Private lakeside accommodation provides a restful base between active days.
