Lake Wanaka sits beneath the Southern Alps in Central Otago, surrounded by mountains and open high-country landscapes. The town has grown considerably but retains a more relaxed character than Queenstown.

A longer alpine stay
Wanaka works well for travellers who want scenery and good restaurants without constant adrenaline. It also provides access towards Mount Aspiring National Park and combines naturally with Queenstown.
