The Northern Pacific Coast covers much of Costa Rica’s Guanacaste shoreline, a region where tropical dry forest meets the Pacific. Long sunny periods, surf beaches and comparatively easy access have made it one of the country’s established coastal destinations.
Choose the coast carefully
Individual beach communities vary considerably, from lively surf towns to secluded bays and private resort enclaves. The right base depends on whether the priority is surfing, family beach time, privacy or access to restaurants.
More than sand
Mangroves, dry forest, volcanic landscapes and marine experiences allow days away from the beach. The region pairs particularly well with Arenal for a simple two-centre Costa Rican itinerary.
