Ruaha National Park lies in Tanzania’s southern interior and has a distinctly wild character. Baobabs, rocky hills, open plains and woodland meet around the Great Ruaha River, creating varied scenery and important dry-season wildlife habitat.
Wildlife around the river
Elephant, buffalo and numerous antelope occur alongside strong predator populations, including lion. The river and its tributaries become increasingly important as the landscape dries, concentrating wildlife and creating excellent opportunities for patient observation.
A safari with space
Ruaha receives far fewer visitors than Tanzania’s northern icons. Drives can cover substantial distances without encountering many other vehicles, and selected camps offer walking for travellers who want to experience the landscape beyond a 4×4.
Combining southern Tanzania
Light-aircraft routes make Ruaha a natural partner for Nyerere National Park. Together they create a safari focused on wilderness, varied activities and low-density camps before continuing to the coast.
