Skoura lies east of Ouarzazate in an oasis landscape of date palms, cultivated gardens and traditional earthen buildings. After crossing the High Atlas, its greenery and quiet lanes provide an immediate sense of arrival in southern Morocco.
Kasbah country
The area is known for fortified mud-brick architecture, including the celebrated Kasbah Amridil. Exploring with a local guide reveals irrigation channels, farming traditions and family compounds that are easily missed from the main road.
A slower southern stop
Skoura is not about a long list of major sights. Its appeal lies in walking or cycling through the palmery, spending time in a characterful retreat and watching the colours of the landscape change towards evening.
Part of a wider journey
The oasis sits naturally on routes linking Marrakesh with Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley and desert country further east. It is an excellent place to break the journey and experience rural Morocco at a more measured pace.
