Snaefellsnes Peninsula extends into the Atlantic north-west of Reykjavik and is dominated by Snaefellsjokull, the glacier-capped volcano at its western end.
Experiencing the region
Coastal cliffs, lava formations, beaches, small harbours and mountain scenery make the peninsula unusually varied. Weather changes quickly and often transforms the same landscape within hours.
Planning your stay
Snaefellsnes can be explored from Reykjavik, but an overnight stay allows a much better pace and provides a natural route onwards into western Iceland.
