Songo Songo Archipelagok

The Songo Songo Archipelago is a remote group of islands off southern Tanzania, offering coral reefs, clear Indian Ocean water and a deeply secluded alternative to the country's better-known beach...

Songo Songo Archipelagok retains the WordPress spelling used by this collection and refers to the Songo Songo Archipelago off Tanzania’s southern coast. This scattered marine landscape is far removed from the busier tourism centres of Zanzibar and the northern mainland.

A remote Indian Ocean setting

Coral reefs, sandbanks and warm tropical water place the emphasis firmly on the sea. Snorkelling, diving, fishing and boat journeys can shape the day, while the relative absence of large-scale tourism preserves a strong sense of isolation.

Travel slowly

Remote island journeys depend more heavily on weather, transfers and local conditions than a conventional resort stay. That additional planning is part of the trade-off for reaching somewhere genuinely removed from mainstream routes.

After safari

The archipelago can provide a beautifully quiet conclusion to a southern Tanzania safari, particularly after Nyerere or Ruaha, maintaining the adventurous character of the journey rather than switching to a large beach resort.
