Taveuni lies off the south-east coast of Vanua Levu and is often called Fiji’s Garden Island. Volcanic soils and high rainfall support dense rainforest, waterfalls and rich plant life, while the Somosomo Strait offshore contains exceptional coral reefs.
Rainforest and waterfalls
Hiking can lead through protected forest to waterfalls, coastal paths and viewpoints, with endemic birds adding interest for naturalists. The island’s interior makes Taveuni feel considerably wilder than Fiji’s principal resort zones.
Rainbow Reef
The Somosomo Strait is internationally known for diving and snorkelling, with nutrient-rich currents supporting vivid soft corals. Taveuni is particularly compelling for travellers wanting serious marine experiences alongside terrestrial nature.
