Turrialba lies in Costa Rica’s central-eastern highlands amid farms, forest and river valleys. It receives fewer leisure visitors than Arenal or Manuel Antonio and consequently retains a more rural atmosphere.
River and mountain country
The Pacuare River is internationally known for white-water rafting through forested gorges, while hiking and rural touring offer less adrenaline-focused alternatives.
An adventurous route east
Turrialba can form part of a journey between the Central Valley and Caribbean side of Costa Rica. It is particularly well suited to travellers who want active experiences and landscapes rather than resort infrastructure.
