Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka combines ancient cities, tea-covered highlands, wildlife reserves and Indian Ocean beaches within relatively compact distances, making it exceptionally well suited to a varied tailor-made journey.

Tea country, wildlife, coast and culture in a beautifully varied island journey

Sri Lanka offers an unusual amount of variety within a relatively compact country. Ancient sites around the Cultural Triangle, the hills and tea estates, wildlife parks and a long coastline can be combined into a journey that changes character every few days.

A private car and driver is often the most comfortable way to travel, with selected train journeys added for scenery rather than necessity. Galle and the south coast make a natural finish after Kandy and tea country, while the east coast can work better at different times of year.

Where to explore in Sri Lanka

Our current Sri Lanka collection takes in Anuradhapura, Bentota, Colombo, Galle, Hatton, Kandy, Passikudah, Sigiriya, Tangalle, Trincomalee and Weligama. Each area has been selected because it adds something distinct to a tailor-made journey, whether that is wildlife, landscape, culture, food, coast or simply the chance to slow the pace.

Rather than treating these as a checklist, we can help decide which regions belong together and how long to spend in each. The aim is a journey that feels coherent, with sensible transfers and enough time to enjoy the properties and experiences along the way.

Who Sri Lanka suits

Sri Lanka works particularly well for couples, families, wildlife enthusiasts and travellers wanting culture, scenery and beach within one coherent itinerary. The detail can then be shaped around the people travelling – preferred pace, room or villa requirements, interests, celebrations and how much structure you want built into each day.

Planning your stay

Private Hideaway Escapes can arrange the complete journey, including handpicked accommodation, private transfers, internal flights where appropriate, guides and experiences. We can also combine Sri Lanka with another destination when the routing genuinely improves the trip rather than simply adding another stop.
