Contemporary African design in Nairobi’s diplomatic district
Tribe Hotel is a design-led city hotel in Gigiri, attached to The Village Market and close to Nairobi’s diplomatic and UN district. Its 128 rooms and suites combine natural stone, timber, metalwork and African art with the facilities of a modern international hotel.
This is a very different Nairobi base from Karen: more urban, contemporary and convenient for the city’s northern districts.
Rooms and suites
The accommodation uses rich materials and locally influenced design rather than generic corporate styling. Categories range from guest rooms to one-bedroom suites and garden-terrace accommodation, with the hotel’s art collection extending throughout the public areas.
Dining
Jiko is the signature restaurant, drawing on African flavours and ingredients while giving local produce a contemporary treatment. The hotel’s position at The Village Market also places a wide range of additional restaurants, cafés and shops immediately nearby.
Kaya Spa and fitness
Kaya Spa provides treatments and wellness facilities, complemented by a gym and pool. Together they make Tribe particularly useful for travellers wanting a proper rest day in Nairobi without feeling confined to their room.
Location
Gigiri works well for travellers with business or diplomatic commitments in northern Nairobi and for those who enjoy having shops and restaurants on the doorstep. It is less convenient than Karen for the Giraffe Centre and Wilson Airport, so itinerary design matters.

Why we like it
Tribe has personality. It is a good choice for guests who want a modern Nairobi experience with art, restaurants and shopping close at hand rather than a suburban safari gateway.
