Classic tented safari after a thoughtful 2025 refurbishment
Elephant Pepper Camp occupies a secluded position in the core of the Mara North Conservancy, a community-owned wilderness bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve. The camp underwent a refurbishment programme in 2025, refreshing the accommodation while retaining the traditional tented character for which it is known.
Accommodation
The camp now comprises eight spacious safari tents and two larger honeymoon/family tents. The standard tents sit beneath fig and elephant pepper trees with private verandas overlooking the savannah, while the larger suites add a separate sitting room that can be converted for children.
En-suite bathrooms, hot-water showers and comfortable campaign-style furnishings keep the experience firmly in the luxury-camp category without turning it into a conventional lodge.
Mara North safari
Guests explore the approximately 77,000-acre Mara North Conservancy, where game drives benefit from controlled tourism numbers and the flexibility of a private conservancy. The Masai Mara National Reserve can also be incorporated when conditions and wildlife movements make it worthwhile.
Day and evening game drives, guided walks, bush breakfasts and sundowners provide variety beyond standard vehicle safaris.
Dining
The central dining and bar area has been refreshed as part of the camp’s recent evolution. Ingredients from the kitchen garden contribute to meals, which may also be served in the bush when the safari schedule allows.

Why we like it
Elephant Pepper keeps the romance of a classic canvas safari while giving guests the advantages of a private conservancy. The 2025 refurbishment is important because it means the current camp should not be judged by older photographs or descriptions.
