Private guiding at the heart of the Serian philosophy
Serian ‘The Original’ is Alex Walker’s flagship camp in the private Mara North Conservancy. Its name translates broadly as peaceful or serene, and the camp deliberately strips away many of the distractions of modern life in favour of space, wildlife and unusually personal guiding.
Five tents above the Mara River
There are just five large tents, including one family unit, set on hardwood decks above the Mara River with views towards the Olooloo Escarpment. Each has an adjoining bush bathroom with hot and cold running water, flushing toilet, shower and a custom-made bathtub positioned to make the most of the landscape.
Your own vehicle, guide and spotter
One of Serian’s defining features is that exclusive use of a 4WD safari vehicle with a dedicated guide and spotter is included. This removes the compromise of shared game drives and allows each day to follow wildlife, light and personal interests rather than a fixed camp timetable.
Mara North
The private conservancy provides excellent year-round wildlife and lower vehicle densities than the national reserve. Long game drives, picnic meals and patient photographic sessions become much easier when the vehicle belongs to your party alone.
Walking and fly camping
For guests wanting to go deeper into the landscape, Serian specialises in walking and adventure fly camping. Lightweight camps can be incorporated into longer stays, creating a deliberately simple night in the wilderness before returning to the comfort of the main camp.
